Can you cook bacon in an air fryer?

There are so many ways to cook bacon. I’ve always been a fan of baking bacon in the oven on a sheet pan. It always comes out perfectly cooked and not shriveled up, like trying to fry it on the stove top. Recently, I’ve started to cook my bacon in the air fryer. Cooking bacon in the air fryer might just be my new favorite way to cook it now.

I’ll normally split a 12oz package of bacon into two batches. One of the biggest reasons I love air fryer bacon is because of how easy it is to cook. Simply take your bacon and place it in your basket. I use the Chefman air fryer and can fit just about 6 slices into the basket. It doesn’t have to be perfectly straight, so I do fold over some bacon, but I just make sure not to crowd the bacon.

One thing I’ve learned through trial and error is cooking bacon in an air fryer sometimes produces some smoke from the bacon grease buildup in the pan. To prevent this, I’ll place a small amount of water in the pan to help eliminate any burning of the grease. I’ve heard of others using parchment paper or air fryer liners for this and there is also parchment paper designed for air fryers.

Next step, is I’ll set my air fryer to just around the 400-degree temperature range and let it go for 10 minutes. I’m pretty impatient, so I’ll open it up around halfway and make sure everything looks good. Pro-tip: if you are a seasoned air fryer cook, you’ll be used to shaking the basket – don’t do that with bacon since the grease will accumulate in the basket and you don’t want hot grease to spill out and onto yourself.

That’s it! I’ll then take the bacon out (grab a fork or tongs) and wipe off any excess grease with a paper towel. Since the grease drips down into the pan, there is not a lot of excesses to wipe up. This creates a crispy outside to the bacon but keeps a tender chew factor to the middle.
